The park at 26th Avenue and Howell St. sits on a tract of land once owned by black pioneer William Grose, who bought it from Henry Yesler in 1882 for $1,000 in gold. It honors Dr. Homer Harris, a pillar of the African American community, who was born in Seattle, captained the Garfield High School football team and served the community for decades as a respected dermatologist. The park is adorned by large, magical sculptures in stone and bronze, by Seattle artist Monad Elohim Graves.
