Medgar Evers may be best known for his civil rights work, specifically around ending segregation and advocating for voting fights for African Americans. He was also an Army veteran and severed in the NAACP in Mississippi. In honor or Medgar Evers and his legacy, this pool offers public swim time as well as swimming lessons for all ages in the heart of the Central Area of Seattle. Scholarships are available to make the pool (and classes) more accessible. The original mural titled, "Omowale" which means "The Child Returns Home" in the Yoruba language, was created by Curtis and Royal Alley-Barnes. The current mosaic was created in partnership with youth from Coyote Central.
