Darrell Toland, the sculptor of this magnificent piece, built the giant on “a whim” as it resonates with the rest of the neighborhood. The giant is a character from Hayao Miyazaki’s 1986 film Castle in the Sky. In the movie, it is known as the Laputa Iron Giant or Forest Guardian; however, in Toland’s front yard, the giant is referred to as “The Gardener.”
